Hungarian Music Night at the Christ’s College JCR

Last Friday, 24th of February, was a big day in the life of the Cambridge Hungarian Society. Not only did our highly anticipated Annual General Meeting conclude (thank you all for coming and voting!), but after a scrumptious dinner, plenty of us made our way to Christ’s College to let some steam off during our music night.

While the focal point and main purpose of the evening was to introduce members of the society and any guests they may bring to the wonderful world of underground Hungarian music, the atmosphere could not have been any more heavenly – laughter and joyful singing filled the air all night long! Drinks and snacks were provided by our wonderful Events’ Officers, which, combined with the works of Carson Coma and Károly Solti, turned the evening into a true celebration of Hungarian culture. “As always, the company was great” says Ádám, a 2nd year Mathematician from Jesus, “but the music was the best part of the night! Barnabás’s playlist was spot on, there were some absolute bangers being played!”. Highlights of the night include some thrilling pool games, as well as a visit from a lovely porter who was genuinely keen to learn about our lives and our opinions on other University staff members, such as his wife!

Ádám, who was elected president earlier that day, was euphoric, and he promises we should expect many more events of such high quality! “This night was a great success! We wish to continue the creation of an even better social scene via such events, in order to fight the declining numbers of Hungarian students at the University.”

He also took the opportunity to express gratitude towards the outgoing president-VP duo, Előd and Csenge, as well as the rest of the committee. We are all very thankful for the work they put in over the past year, and hope that 2023 turns out to be an even more special year for the society, starting with our Annual Dinner on 4th March, which promises to be one of the most exquisite events of CUHS ever. We hope to see everyone there!

Barnabás igazán kitett magáért ezzel a lejátszási listával!”.

Brexit: the current situation – and what to do next

The Embassy of Hungary in London held a discussion evening with British officials where Tamas Stenczel and Sara Mandoki participated to get information regarding the implications of Brexit  from first hand. Please find attached the summary booklet with all the information currently accessible.

The UK will leave the EU on 29 March 2019 and will move to a transition period until 31 December 2020. If you arrived to the UK before the end of this period, you will be able to apply for staying here and can finish your studies in peace with fees and student loan as now. The application process will be simple and cheap (<£100). There is no need for you to do anything now, but it is advised to do the application as soon as possible after it will be open.
